Usually when I start a pattern with floss, kreink braids or anything I haven't used before I do research and find the best answers that would work for me. Sometimes I go to my cross stitch groups on Face book for valuable information from the lovely ladies, everyone is very helpful and can offer helpful information. I'm currently working( design on hold) on a design from Glendon Place called Eggcellent Easter Scene ,Designed by Cheryl A. Granda ©2007. Designs states to stitch over 2 with 2 strands of floss, I just started this design and center stitches are Kreink #4 braid. I'm finding that the braid is dragging through the fabric and from experience this may create extra fraying of the braid that I am hoping I could avoid, so I went looking for a better size needle rather than using 1 strand and a size 24 needle and come upon this helpful website Kreinik NeedleSelection Chart.  Working on an Angel by Thea Dueck called " Grace " 2002 Angel. This angel has a bargello skirt so I am learning how to stitch a Bargello pattern. Basically  it is Satin Stitches and Victoria Sampler on Youtube has a video that shows how to do them. There are several videos, websites etc. that show the many patterns you can stitch. I like Victoria Sampler the best.

I am hoping this helps my fellow stitchers. Happy Stitching! ~ Christie's Cross Stitch Creations~

* EDITOR'S NOTE- Thankfully I didn't get to far before realizing Krienik #4 braid offers the same coverage as 2 strands of floss, so now I know to only use 1 strand of #4 Kreinik braid. I should have ask first but I like to learn on my own whenever possible.
Blending filament AND Kreinik Braid
Usually used with stranded cotton/floss to add sparkle. Not usually used alone because they give insufficient coverage.
They can be stitched in the same needle as the main colour or added later so that they all lie on the top and are more visible. If added separately, just stitch the top arm of the cross stitch.
Keep the blending filament damp while stitching to reduce knotting. Take a cotton wool cosmetic remover pad and dampen it with cold water. Keep the pad in a small dish beside you. Run the thread through a fold in the cotton wool pad either just before or just after threading the needle, and at any time during your stitching.

Kreinik Very Fine #4 Braid - one strand stitches up to the same coverage as 2 strands of DMC/Anchor.

  1. I agree that it helps to use a bigger needle to stitch with metalics. The larger hole helps to let it slide through easier. I really dislike creating a larger hole, but sometimes it's just needed. Thanks for the picture. Visuals help me more than just looking at a discription in just text.
